This is a great place to visit if you want to know where the Raleigh
locals go to dine. If the nostalgic 40's theme of the cafe isn't enough
to win you over, there is the authentic comfort food to take your
experience over the top - not to mention the desserts Hayes Barton Cafe
is very well known for. Every entree and dessert seems to have an added
touch of whimsy...as does the diner itself - from the manner in which
the entrees are named, to the portraits of old movies stars flanking
the walls. Hands down, its a great "date" restaurant. There is even a
television that shows continuous classics such as "Casablanca" all
night long. The retro "U" shaped bar is comfortable to sit at -
especially if you are the type that doesn't mind mingling with other
diners while you eat or enjoy a chocolate martini. The cafe is well
staffed. Most often, the entree and dessert portions are large enough
for 2 adults to share, so the value is also good at the HB Diner. One
caveat: it's best to make reservations if you are a party of 4 or
more. The Hayes Barton Cafe is a very popular neighborhood
restaurant and it's often "standing room only" soon after they prop
open their doors. Who says you can't "eat" atmosphere?! Bon Apetit! – BA
