Wilmington generally enjoys a very warm climate throughout the year, but it gets much warmer in the spring and summer months. Because it is a popular coastal community in the Cape Fear region, it draws a lot of tourists during these months. If you don't mind the crowds, this isn't really a problem. Be aware the humidity will be high during these months. The fall and spring are both excellent times to visit if the sand and waves aren't your main concern, but the weather does have a mind of its own. It may be anywhere from 70 to 50, but this shouldn't hamper activities like exploring downtown, visiting the battleship, or enjoying the nightlife. Winter will be still more cool, but cool is a relative term in a town where 80 degree temperatures in winter have been heard of.
