Yelapa is a lot of fun. It is only accessible by boat for most people. You have to take a boat from Puerto Vallarta to get to Yelapa.  Puerto Vallarta is really much nicer than it appears at first, especially when you get away from the carnival like atmosphere at the main beach there.  Yelapa is very tranquil in comparison.

There are no cars at all, just horses and donkeys and a few motorized carts to carry bottled water and things like that.  They have only had electricity in Yelapa for about eight years.  There is loud music on people's radios most of the time, which is OK if you like Mexican polka ranchera type music.

There are a lot of good restaurants, and some beautiful hikes.

The weather in winter is usually quite warm, but can be chilly.
