Visitors don't usually associate an active nightlife with Cannon Beach. The small town's streets and shops are often filled with tourists, but most are there to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, the fun of the beach, and the slower pace of life on the coast.  And Cannon Beach planners appear to want to keep it that way.  Sidewalks are usually rolled up and most folks are nestled in their lodgingswell before most restaurants' 10:00pm closing times. But for those who enjoy a little nightlife, the obvious choice is the historic Bill's Tavern & Brewhouse, located on Hemlock Street in the center of town.  Bill's has been around in one form or another for years, but since the mid 1980's has taken on the identity of the town's pub.  The kitchen at Bill's actually closes at 9:00pm, but the bar/pub stays open until 11:00pm on weeknights, and 2:00am on the weekends.  As its name suggests, beer is the usual order of the day.  Atmosphere is comfortable-casual in rooms with vaulted ceilings and a wood-dominated decor.  The Floating Glass Balls are regularly scheduled on Thursday nights 7-10pm. They call their live music "beach grass" .

The Lumberyard Rotisserie & Grill is another possibility for late evening dining and entertainment.  Located at the north entrance to downtown, The Lumberyard is primarily a restaurant and provides free pool tables in addition to live music acts every Wednesday evening.  The atmosphere is warm and casual, with a bar area featuring a ceiling of giant timbers and an open fireplace built from large river rock.  The full kitchen is open nightly until 10:00pm, after which a light appetizer menu is provided until closing, usually 1/2 to 1 hour later.  Lumberyard Rotisserie & Grill is operated by the same company that also operates the Wayfarer Restaurant and the restaurant at Stephanie Inn, two of Cannon Beach's fine dining establishments.

You can find John Fraser playing his guitar on Friday nights at Cranky Sue's located just next door to the Lumberyard. Enjoy Sue's Very Crabby Cakes - a house specialty! - while you listen to and tap your toes to John's rhythms.
