Eugene goes crazy in the spring and summer--people are so excited to see the sun and the blossoming flowers, almost any day is an excuse for a festival, and Eugene's got plenty of them. The annual highlight of the events calendar is the Oregon Bach Festival, which is held for two weeks in late June and early July. The University of Oregon campus houses the fesitval, as well as the Hult Center. It features performances by internationally acclaimed soloists and orchestral, choral, and chamber music groups interpreting the compositions of the eighteenth-centure German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. The Folk Festival in May is a signature Eugene event that also takes place on the University of Oregon campus--several days of folk, country, and international music, as well as a slew local restaurants, celebrate the (usual) good weather. The Oregon Country Fair is perhaps one of the better known "hippy" festivals that takes place in July for three days 13 miles east of Eugene in the woods outside Veneta. The fair seems like a mere excuse to party in the woods, but its arts, crafts, music, and food are aimed at "nourishing the spirit, exploring living artfully and authentically on Earth, and transforming culture in magical, joyous, and healthy ways." Definitely worth once visit...  The more urban Eugene Celebration takes place for three days at the beginning of September just before many of UO's students return and celebrates Eugene's good summer weather, diverse restaurants, and cultural wealth.
