Although Medford is quite close to the coast, it is also shielded from the ocean's sometimes cold and harsh winds thanks to the surrounding mountains. Medford has a temperate and mild climate which was one of the reasons it's actually listed as a top place to retire.

The region also enjoys four seasons all defined as almost textbook. Summers are hot and sunny with temperatures averaging just above 90 degrees, yet the dry air makes the heat bearable and actually pleasant. The autumn is a superb time to visit as the tall Oregon forests just outside of Medford and climbing the mountains nearby, put on a showcase of fall foliage displays while temperatures remain at ideal degrees in the 70s. Winter in Medford is met with a bit of annual snow, only an average of about three inches yet, not too far one can access deep and fresh powder ideal for winter sports. Spring comes rather early as warm temperatures settle in the valley and bring on the flowers.

Medford is has a decent amount of precipitation and can be compared to San Francisico with its annual accumulation average. Travelers benefit by packing rain gear when planning to spend a lot of time outdoors in the region.
