Located conveniently just off of Interstate 83, York is centrally located between Harrisburg, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Getting to York isn't to difficult but it can be a bit time consuming. Flying into the Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI) is the most economical way to get to York, Pa but it generally means a 75 minute car ride north. While the drive isn't bad as it is fairly direct and all freeway, after traveling for hours on a plane, most people don't want to spend more hours behind the wheel of an automobile. The other more convenient option is to fly into Harrisburg, Pa which is less than a short thirty minute car ride away. The problem is Harrisburg has fewer incoming flights and the round trip airfare generally is one hundred dollars or more than flying into BWI. Other options exist as well such as flying into Philadelphia, but generally when locals discuss air travel the Harrisburg airport and BWI are the two options they are selecting from. No matter which option you use to fly into the area once you get into an automobile and onto Interstate 83, generally you are home free. I83 runs in almost a direct line between Baltimore and Harrisburg and York is one of the many stopovers in between the two larger cities. Traffic on I83 is generally light, but be warned a 65mph speed limit is the norm and there are many places along the way that drop down to 55mph. Expect to see at least one patrol officer parked along the side of the road nearly out of view nabbing unsuspecting lead foots during an average trip from BWI to York. It is a little less predictable on whether or not you will see a patrol officer on any given trip between Harrisburg and York. Either way drive smart and stick close to the speed limit unless you want to be forking over some of that hard earned cash and a few points off of the ye ole license.
