It was opened September 19, 1942.  This is a very cool art deco style theater right in downtown Charleston, close to some really good restaurants too.  It's doesn't operate like a regular movie theater, it's very nice inside and currently used only for movie premieres and special events.  This year they'll be hosting the 3rd Charleston International Film Festival which is super fun too and has some free things going on every year.  www.CharlestonIFF.com  This is also where they filmed the movie 'The Notebook'.
