Columbia is home to the University of South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks. Hockey fans can also see the Columbia Inferno , a member of the East Coast Hockey League.

The city’s numerous parks offer an outlet for any sport you can think of, including baseball, softball, basketball, and tennis. And Lake Murray , at 41 miles long and 14 miles wide, is a great place for swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, and kayaking. It also offers more than 500 miles of shoreline for picnicking and relaxing.

Plus, this city was named one of the best golfing vacations in the nation, by a leading golf magazine. The mild weather allows golfing year-round, and there are approximately 20 different courses to choose from. Rates are reasonable, crowds are small and tee times are easy to reserve.

Another great activity the whole family can enjoy is a little known sport called Disc Golf!  This sport involves throwing plastic discs towards a metal catching device with chains on it called a basket or target.  What is great about this sport is the courses are FREE to play on and all you need is a disc or two for each player.  You can find discs online by googling disc golf , or locally at Sauls Insurance on 4064 Beltline Dr 29204 only a few miles from Earlewood Park.  There are two public courses one at Earlewood Park off main st to the west of downtown and one at Owens Field Park.  There is also a great course in Chapin next to Chapin Middle School at Crooked Creek Park. You can see a map of these locations and learn more about the sport at www.columbiadiscgolfclub.com
