Smack dab in the heartland of Texas, Fredericksburg is ideally situated for taking day trips. The major highways either intersect in Fredericksburg or are easily accessed, meaning most of your day will be spent at your destination, not driving to it.

  • Cascade Caverns: Located in Boerne, Texas, the Cascade Caverns are just a short drive away from Fredericksburg on the Interstate 10. Exit #543 will bring you to the caves enclose a one-hundred foot waterfall. In addition to the waterfall, you’ll see the bones and fossils of early cave animals, and of course, some amazing rock formations.
  • Cave Without A Name: It’s worth seeing this one in addition to the Cascade Caverns, especially since they’re only about 10 miles apart. Though it doesn’t have a name, the Cave Without A Name does have actively forming stalactites and stalagmites. The cave's web site allows you to make reservations in advance.
  • San Antonio: One of Texas’ major cities, San Antonio is an hour’s drive south of Fredericksburg. It’s worth going just to see the Alamo, but other top rated attractions include Sea World San Antonio and the San Antonio Museum of Art.
  • Johnson Park: The area where 36th president Lyndon B. Johnson grew up has been turned into the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, and it’s just 20 miles east of Fredericksburg. Take one of the park service tours to learn about the area itself but also about President Johnson’s life and legacy.
