A must for people of all ages is the Port Aventura Theme Park. It was formerly part of the Universal family of theme parks but this link waas dropped in 2005. It is just a short distance from the centre of Salou (The noddy train will take you there) and is one hour from Barcelona. Unlike theme parks in America there is no specific theme but there is a lot of Woody Woodpeckers around as its used as the logo.
The park is divided into countries - Mediterrania, Polonysia, China, Mexico, and the Far West.
Mediterrania is the main entrance area of the park, it features two rides but there are several restaurants and shops reproducing a typical coastal town in Catalonia.
China is home to the biggest ride in the park - Dragon Khan, with 8 inversions this is one of the most thrilling rides in Europe. Even out of season the queues can be very long.
The Far West has 9 attractions which makes it the biggest area in the park, these include: water rides; Silver River Flume and Grand Canyon Rapids. The two roller coasters are: Stampida - This dueling Wooden roller coaster is the second largest roller coaster in the park. Tomahawk is a junior version of Stampida.
The admission rates are comparable with most theme parks but there are special offers to be had if you book online. There are reduced rates if you also want to visit the Water Park (Caribe Aquatic).
