Shorty's Place is "the Island's Oldest and Friendliest" Bar. Be prepared for a very unique experience stepping through the doors of Shorty's. Miss Rose, the owner is a great lady, her daughter Joy runs the bar. Bartender Len is a local that can answer nearly any question you have about Port A. Go with your hat-in-hand to add to the collection on the ceiling. On the weekend, Miss Rose's grandson plays music on the porch, or one of the other local bands are there. Sometimes it is a member of several different bands that make up the porch band, dancing is encouraged. There is no A/C, and don't ask when they plan to put it in. You'll be laughed out of the room! There is a space heater for the winter, and most winter evenings, you'll share this with dozens of "locals." October brings the "Pig Party", a massive birthday party for Miss Rose, a pig collector. People come from all over the world for this event. If it rains, the parking lot floods, if there is a high-tide, the parking lot floods. The beer is cold, the pool tables old - but great - the porch is cool even in the summer.
