Round Top, Texas, population 77: Sitting on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, this small historic town is bursting at the seams with events, culture and charm. Here among the large oaks and gentle hills one can step back in time and enjoy a weekend in a bed & breakfast, a parade through the town square, or even a classical concert. Round Top hosts the oldest annual 4th of July celebration west of the Mississippi. Round Top was chartered in 1870 along Cummins Creek in Northern Fayette County. It is believed that the town received its name from "the house with the round top" which was an early stagecoach destination that was located about a mile northeast of the present town site. The first settlers were prosperous plantation owners who came here as early as 1826. In the late 1840's, German immigrants moved here and left their imprint on this landscape. The original 1880's courthouse in Round Top burned in 1924 and was rebuild at the present location on the town square. This community is small in size but mighty in charm; step back in time to another perfect day in Round Top.
