Waxahachie is the county seat for Ellis County and a rural bedroom community for the DFW Metroplex, about thirty minutes from both downtown Dallas to the northeast and Ft. Worth to the North. Apart from that, it is also a very artistic and educated community valuing its culture, architecture and history. Historic preservation is evident in the value it places on the grand courthouse in the town square, the historic homes of its neighborhoods and the continued use of the Chataugua Auditorium in Getzandaner Park (built in 1902). One may never find the cities of Rockwellian fame as we, as a culture, have preserved them in our nostalgia, but - if you are looking - Waxahachie is a very good fit. Hollywood has not overlooked Waxahachie's home town image and has used the area frequently for films such as Bonnie and Clyde, Places in the Heart, Tender Mercies and Trip to Bountiful among others.
