Lots of great options. The best is downtown, in the Historic District. There is a closed-to-traffic four block walking mall, the Loudoun Street Pedestrian Mall, which has great, unique shops and some of the best restaurants. It's great fun to poke around that area, walk under the big trees on the brick walkway and explore. There's a great Civil War museum (the Old Courthouse) where you can see soldier's graffiti preserved on the walls - fascinating stuff!  Away from downtown, there is the usual suburbia box stores (heck, the town has 2 Wal-Marts), with a lot of options that are familiar to everyone, mostly along Pleasant Valley Road south of downtown.  Check out the farmers markets outside of town, too.
