Tacoma is a great place to visit if you like art made from blown glass. Dale Chihuly is from Tacoma, he is famous for making large sculptures of blown glass. As part of Tacoma’s effort to restore the water front a large glass museum has been built. You can’t miss it. You get to the museum from a large bridge just down from the old train station. The museum has a large metallic cone where there are live glass blowing demonstrations. The main part of the museum contains permanent and traveling exhibits.

A little north of the glass museum is the Washington State History Museum. There are many travel exhibits so check their website often. There are also many interactive exhibits for children. If you head further north you will come to Point Defiance. Point Defiance is home to a spectacularly scenic drive around the perimeter of the point. This drive is a must, is has a wonderful view of Vashon Island and the Narrows Bridge. Point Defiance is also home to a wonderful zoo and aquarium. The zoo is small, but the animal enclosures are high quality and interesting.
