The special events and festivals season begins in Spring and end in Fall. The calendar is packed and you should check out at http://www.discovermoab.com for details. Most of the festivals celebrate outdoor activities and sports, so they won’t take you out of the mood of the place. Some of these events include:
- Jeep Safari. It is “the” Jeep event. Riding all day long around Moab trails is the core and fun of this event. It takes place in April. The highlight of this 10-day-long celebration is “Big Saturday”, the biggest trail ride with almost 300 riders leaving at the same time from the same spot.
-Music Festivals adorn the year with classical music in September and folk music in November. In October, the Confluence Literary Festival occurs.
- Foot Races: Moab Half Marathon and 5K Run, takes place generally on the third Saturday in March, it features a 9-miles- running race out of town. Check their website at http://www.moabhalfmarathon.org for the year’s information.The Red Hot 50 for the die hard long distance athletes enamoured with trail running, http://www.mas50.com. And Moab's newest addition debuted 2008 the Moab Relay deploying a team of 5 going up into the La Sal Mountains behind Moab on the La Sal Loop Road.
Also added in 2008, the Moab Area Travel Council added a Facility and Event Promoter to the staff to assist planners of festivals, concerts, product launches, corporate retreats, weddings, equestrian, golf, or sport events. Planners get connected to services, permit information and various event logistics to develop a new event or festival to take place in Moab. Advertising grants are rewarded for events meeting particular specifications. Applications due October 15 each year.
