This city is served by the San Diego International Airport ( SAN ), located just south of Mission Bay off of Interstate 5. Over 20 major North American airlines offer service here. About a dozen national car rental agencies also operate at this airport. Various ground transportation options are available from the airport, including readily available taxis, independently operated shuttle buses and vans, the city’s Metro Bus, Amtrak and the Coaster. For quick and cheap access to the Gaslamp District/Downtown, Bus 992 runs from the airport to Horton Plaza for only $2.25.
Visitors can arrive by Amtrak train at the rail station on Kettner Blvd or the one in Old Town on Taylor Street. Greyhound offers bus service to its downtown station at 1313 National Ave San Diego, which is south of Petco Park, near the 12th and Imperial trolley stop.
For those driving into town, San Diego is located at the southwest corner of California. It’s about a two hour drive south from the Los Angeles area on Interstate 5. Phoenix is six hours to the east via Interstate 8. Visitors from Las Vegas will head south on Interstate 15 to arrive in about six hours. Those driving up from Mexico will reach San Diego just a few miles north of the border.
