If you've got kids, or even if you're a child at heart, you should check out the Community Built Park (known to most locals as Penny Park). Back around 2000, the late Janet Hammel got together with two other women and hired an architect to draw up plans for a park and playground... and that's about the only outside assistance that was ever asked for. The place was built with donated materials, local labor and (literally) pennies contributed by the kids of Silver City. A local map can be found here . The website for the Community Built Park can be found here .

There's also camping in Gila National Park, and a nearby ghost town for a bit of spooky fun.
