Be advised (warned/relieved, etc) that Anchorage is now "smoke-free".

Chilkoot Charlies, or "Koot's" as it is called by locals, has been a mainstay of Anchorage night life since 1970. It has steadily expanded since then, and now the club is divided into numerous bars, each with its own theme. The main bar has a very Alaskan feel with furinture built out of logs and sawdust on the floors.  The Russian Bar recreates the experience of czarist Russia; the Spenardi Bar serves up daiquiris and other blended drinks; and the Swing Bar has a premium cigar collection and specializes in martinis. There is a deck with its own bar that opens on the weekends in the summer, weather permitting. Almost every night features live entertainment, whether it be a local comedian, a poker tournament, the local Reggae group, or a DJ.

Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse - This popular downtown night spot opened its doors in 1994. It prides itself on serving the best selection of premium draft beers, including IPAs, Belgian beers, porters and other seasonal varieties. A big screen TV, plasma screens and other TVs assure that any sports fan can catch his favorite team. Great food is available, with lots of Alaskan delicacies such as salmon and halibut, and daily specials are availble. There is a patio that is open in the summer, and live music every night .

Blues Central - Great place for live music, and it only helps if you like the blues. Entertainers are close for a great jam sesion, intamate feel. The palce is small and gets crowed but that just adds to the fun. With a very small dance floor as well for you and the lady friend. The Decor is early 60/Art Deco so it adds a lot to the blues feel. Highly recomended. The Sunday night jam sesion it great there a lot of musicians in Anchorage for ti's size, and many good ones at that.

The Hullabaloo on Third Avenue is a multi-media show about the history of Alaska located inside the Snow Goose restaurant in downtown Anchorage. It's funny and creative and a must-see when you are here on vacation. The Snow Goose runs the Sleeping Lady Brewery and has a tasty selection of beers brewed on site. There are two decks outside that allow for a great view of the water on a sunny evening to take advantage of the long hours of light in the summer.
