Natchez is full of events all year round. The Southern hospitality is alive and thriving, providing a party atmosphere, plenty of good ol' home cookin' and feet-stomping music. Whatever the month, there is something cooking in Natchez.
The third weekend of October is always reserved for the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race. Hot air balloons take to the skies while big name musicians take the stage. Previous artists include Edgar Winter, Irma Thomas, Eddie Money, Marcia Ball, and many other world-renowned musicians.
One of the biggest celebration's of the year is in June, the Juneteenth Celebration which commemorates the freeing of slaves. Music concerts, fashion shows, cook-offs, gospel singing, and a rodeo are a part of the party.
In early July, the Rosalie Wedding honors veterans and celebrates Independence Day.
If you can stand the heat and don't want to get out of the kitchen however, August boasts some great celebrations to consider, especially for the foodies. The Food & Wine Festival is a great one to come for and at the end of the month there is a Jumbalaya Cook-off Festival so prepare to come and indulge on the area's specialties.
The Natchez Festival of Music takes place in May. Jazz, opera, and broadway tunes are the focus of this lively celebration, with professional artists in lead roles. The 2009 event will include "The Music Man" and "Carmen." Music fans should also consider coming in April for the Natchez Blues Festival.
