One of the more reliable ways to get around this part of Arizona is to go with a tour company. American Dream Tours (phone: (888) 203-1212), website: www.americandreamtours.com) offers tours of the Grand Canyon for groups, families and individuals. If you are short on time, Grand Canyon Airlines (phone: (866) 2-FLY-GCA, website: www.grandcanyonairlines.com) gives day aerial tours of the Canyon, though it also has more leisurely walking and rafting tours as well. Packages for groups and hotel stays are available.
To diversify your Flagstaff trip, try Open Road Tours (phone: (800) 766-7117, website www.openroadtours.com). This company offers trips not only to the Grand Canyon but also the Colorado River, Sedona and Monument Valley. You can start your journey in Flagstaff, Sedona, Phoenix or Scottsdale, with different tour lengths and methods of transportation available at each one. Shuttles between locations (Phoenix to Flagstaff, Flagstaff to Grand Canyon, et cetera) are also offered.
Rental cars can be picked up from the Pulliam Municipal Airport in Flagstaff. Call Budget, Enterprise, Avis, National, Express or Hertz for an advance reservation.
