T.F. Greene Airport (Warwick, RI) - 25 miles
Logan Airport (Boston, MA) - 75 miles
Newport State Airport - 5 miles

Even coming from the airport, you would still need to rent a car or find other suitable means of transportation. T.F. Greene, additionally, is a smaller hub than Boston and generally services other smaller hubs - e.g, BWI to T.F. Greene instead of DCA. That having been said, T.F. Greene is hardly ever crowded and the terminal is well-maintained and very easy to navigate as compared to Logan.

With regards to Newport State Airport, only one airplane service flies out of there, AirNewport. AirNewport flies from many unique and not-easily-serviceable destinations (read: wealthy, elite havens) such as Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Provincetown, Bridgeport, etc. Prices are obviously much higher than you would normally pay, but for some the convienence may be worth it. It serves as far away as Washington, DC. See here for pricing.

By Train

Amtrak Station (Kingston, RI) - 17 miles
Amtrak Station (Providence, RI) - 34 miles

By Boat

What would Newport be without an Arriving & Departing by boat section! The Newport Harbor Hotel offers a marina with sixty slips for transient dockage. Click here to reserve dockage.

For those of more modest means RIPTA offers a ferry service between Newport and Providence.   It's a great way to travel if your plans already include a stop in Providence, but will not actually help you to get from the airport.  The ferry itself is very pleasant with great views of the Bay and it lands in a very central spot near Thames St in Newport.
