The Museum of Taipa and Coloane History (aka Museu da Historia da Taipa e Coloane) is located in a wonderfully preserved Neo-Classical pastel building located at the end of Rua Correia da Silva in Taipa. The gound floor contains several rooms devoted to various exhibits, including prehistoric artifacts gathered from archeoligical digs in Coloane, the various religions practiced in the region, organizations that have made an impact on the area, and the landscape and political changes that have occured to the islands. The upper floor has exhibits pertaining to life and industry on the islands, fishing, agriculture, ship building and the firework factories that were once so important to the local people. There are written guide books in English, Portugues and Chinese to describe nearly every item within the museum, as well as audio guides available in English, Portuguese, Cantonese and Mandarin. The entry fee is 5 MOP, free admission on Sundays. Hours are 10:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays.
A visit to The Museum of Taipa and Coloane History makes a nice compliment to the nearby Taipa Houses Musuem, located on Avenida da Praia about 10 minutes walk away, through the historic Taipa village area.
