    Holiday Rental House –
    3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6
This old village house is nestled in the foothills of the mountains, in the heart of the Taverone valley in Lunigiana. Originally it was the village bakery. It has a warm, friendly atmosphere, and the original pizza oven can be seen at the front of the house.

The Taverone, a clear mountain river, has deep bathing pools only 5 minutes' walk from the village.
There are two villages with shops and restaurants just 2kms away and it is not far from the seaside or the mountains.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Lunigiana is littered with deserted hilltop villages, and Montale is one of these. There are maybe twenty properties in the whole village, only a handful of which are inhabited all year round. The house has a fantastic vine covered terrace with barbeque at the front, and literally the only sound you will hear most of the time is the church bell, 200 mts away. The house is very well maintained, and we loved staying here. Lunigiana really is an unspoilt area of Italy. There are few tourists, despite its proximity to Pisa airport, and to the Ligurian coast. There's a great pool at Comano, about 5 mins away by car. My only gripe is that this feels like someone else's second home (which it is) rather than a straight holiday let. The house is chock full of the owner's stuff; every drawer reveals old spectacles, toothbrushes, slippers etc! I really hope the owners address this little caveat, and make this a perfect rural retreat. more
