First thing you should know is that it is someone's house, which makes you feel more like you are couch surfing rather than paying for a rental house. Secondly it is a self build which means in this case that it is very roughly finished with the electric's leaving a lot to be desired. (I got a few small shocks from one of the lights) wires left uncovered and plug/sockets left unsecured. I think it could be beautiful but still needs more work.
When we arrived we were met by a very nice man who showed us to the house, he practically had to kick the door in as it was so swollen from the rain. He handed us the keys and left to figure out the house ourselves. First task find how to turn on the electricity and heating, the house was cold and damp - including the betting. We traded in our PJs for jumpers and thermals. , It took us two days to get a normal temperature in the house. It was great to have the wood fire however most of the firewood was also damp.
