We thoroughly enjoyed our week at The Stables in Appledore! In this very crowded and quaint seaside place the fisherman's cottages are mostly crammed into dark alleyways with difficult access and no outlook. The Stables is cheerful, being very well lit with windows and skylights, very well heated, and roomy with a huge bedroom (king size bed) large reception room (French windows to decking with a view over rooftops) and good sized bathroom with bath and separate power shower, all on one level. The owners have also (unusually in our experience) equipped it with truly adequate coat hooks and shelves for all the clobber needed for a holiday in our unpredictable English climate. It rained for us, but the flat was not gloomy, and (if the weather had been better) we'd have been able to sit out on the decking.
Walking down into Appledore is easy, and we paid £20 for a tourist parking permit which lasted the week (valid everywhere in North Devon) and left our car in the nearby... more
