    Capel-Maentwrog, a converted 19th Century Calvinistic Chapel is a genuine landmark building. You certainly won’t drive past this one by mistake. But as impressive as the exterior is, it just gets better when you step inside. Everything about this property exudes luxury.

    As you step in through the arched front door and enter the the church the ceiling is over 9m (30ft) above you. And with a polished slate floor and spiral staircase the space is truly inspiring. Majestic windows allow an extraordinary light to flood into the chapel. More subtle perhaps are the acoustics.

    There seems to be a richness of sound as well as vision in this space. My recommendation would be to play a ‘Bruce Springsteen’ CD at full volume to help wake up the children. But you may have other preferences. The kitc...

    So, to describe the living arrangements. On the ground floor you walk through from the lounge into the dining and kitchen area. Big dining table with plenty of room for 8 guests as well as fully fitted kitchen. Wheelchair access is provided by smaller side door. There’s also a ground floor loo.

    Up the steel spiral staircase to the suspended first floor and we have one large en-suite twin room and one king size double bedroom, also en-suite. The double room has a partitioned child’s bedroom with plenty of room for a cot or small day bed. (Both provided). The bathrooms are huge and the styling is of course, immaculate.

    On the next floor there’s two more double bedrooms. And one more bathroom up here with a nice big bath. Arched windows provide a dramatic sweep of light over the Italian mar...

    From the North (Blaenau Ffestiniog) follow the A496 towards Maentwrog for 5 miles. Turn right at t junction with A487. Capel-Maentwrog is the first building on left hand side of road just before left turn for Maentwrog and village centre.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon to find the lights in the master bedroom ensuite didn't work; neither did the bedside lamps. I tried to contact the caretaker without any luck so i contacted the manager who told me the caretaker was away until the Monday, so no lights until then. Frustrating but we coped with it (thankfully we took a torch with us!). At least 2 of the 4 bedrooms had not been cleaned properly with rubbish on the floor and used tissues in the wardrobe. The hob in the kitchen is not great and it took a while for it to get any heat so we could cook and the coffee maker had not been cleaned. The toilets throughout didn't fill properly and the shower in the master bedroom didn't drain properly and leaked.

Having said all that, this property is in a great location and everything we wanted to do was very accessible from here. The property is in need of some TLC and some maintenance to bring it back up to the 5 stars that it claims to be. At the moment id give it...

The camera certainly doesn’t lie, in fact it does not do the property justiice. It’s a stunning convertion with every need catered for, even down to the welcome pack of goodies left for our arrival.

It’s an ideal base, within close distance of heritage railways, challenging walks, intresting slate mines and a stunning mountain range.

We did a lot of research to find this property and oh boy did we come up trumps. The chapel has everything we needed on the inside and two eating establishments within walking distance on the outside what more could we ask for.

Without any doubt we would highly recommend this property to any larger party as it comfortably holds 8 adults with space to spare.
We will be looking to hire this chapel again in the future, unless the owner has sold it to us in the meantime!!
