Over 4 days of the May Bank Holiday weekend, I took a small group of overseas friends to the Lake District and we stayed at the wonderful Coach House, situated in the grounds of the Glenrothay Hotel. The Coach House was only refurbished a couple of years ago and so was in excellent condition, sparkling clean and comfortably appointed. There were plenty of beds and easily accommodated our party of seven. Everything was provided in the fully modernised kitchen and so cooking was a joy. However, on our first night, we took advantage of supper provided in the excellent Badger Bar - a real-ale pub tucked inside the ground floor of the Glenrothay Hotel. The food was inexpensive and delicious - as was the range of local beers on the pump.
One of our happiest memories was arriving back at the Coach House after a hard days walking on the hills and lighting a fire in the living room - even though we did have to go foraging for logs in the woods nearby. All in all, a great place to stay in... more
