    The Isle of Wight is served by two main car ferry companies. Red Funnel run services from Southampton to East Cowes and Wightlink run services from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and Lymington to Yarmouth.

    Whilst a car is recommended it is possible to travel by public transport with a fast catamaran service from Southampton to West Cowes (Red Funnel) and a hovercraft from Southsea to Ryde.

    A train runs from Ryde to Shanklin and the island has an efficient bus service.

Spent 3 nights here - wished we could have stayed for longer. Very comfortable for our group of 8. Lots of steps, but the kids loved that. Big common rooms so we could all spend time together easily. Stayed in Dudley house at the beginning of autum with a couple of mates. Absolutely stunning sea views, a very cosy atmosphere and a landlord who's on the ball. Basement is a bit damp, but apart from that it's a house with great character. Highly recommended for those who want to get away from the mainland hassle for a while. more

The great news is that Ventnor benefits from it's own micro-climate and 2013 was an exceptionally warm summer. As a result we suffered from some build up of condensation in the basement where the cold water pipe enters the house.
