Podere Patrignone is a beautiful old 15th Century estate ('podere') which has been lovingly and tastefully restored. Patrignone is set on top of it's own hill reached by a long, winding private road that ends at Patrignone. It is set in 150 acres of forest, olives and vines, with uninterrupted 360 degree views over the Tuscan valley. It's the perfect setting for peaceful walks, sunbathing, cycling and exploring. It has a lovely pool with one of the best vistas in Tuscany. Wake up to the mists rising through the trees and the beautiful views of surrounding vineyards, or catch an amazing sunset over the towers of San Gimignano and the snow-capped Apennines on the horizon. It is divided into 5 self-contained apartments and the Villa, all beautifully furnished in a traditional style. It is divided into 5 self-contained apartments and the Villa, all beautifully furnished in a traditional style. Location Patrignone is right in the middle of Chianti, at the epicentre of Tuscany's cultural treasures, just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its restaurants, cafes and shops. Siena is just 35 minutes away, and Florence 40 minutes in the other direction, San Gimignano is 30 mins away, with Volterra the next village along. You really couldn't pick a more central base for your exploration of Tuscany. La Tinaia This lovely airy 2 person apartment has arched windows that frame the most amazing views, and is set slightly away from the other apartments, making it a lovely romantic hideaway! It was originally used as a storage area for two very large wine vats. The walls have been left in the natural local stone and the working fireplace was built by a local stonemason. It has one large room for dining/cooking/sitting with lovely old chestnut furniture, and stained glass windows on the large arched entrance door. The bedroom is very pretty and the furnishings are antique; the en suite bathroom has a bathtub/shower, WC, bidet and washbasin, and a picturesque view to enjoy in the mornings. It has its own small garden and patio with wonderful views over olive groves, woodland, vineyards and the hills beyond. The swimming pool is a short stroll away, and the beautifully landscaped pond area is a short walk on the other side of the Villa. This apartment sleeps 2, but you can also rent any number of the other properties in this isolated hill-top farm to give you a maximum sleeping capacity of 33. So if you have a large gathering to plan, please get in touch. Availability Please check our website for current availability, or get in touch and we'll let you know what we have. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Thanks Joseph, it was lovely to meet you both! We work hard to make The Big Book useful for our guests, with day-trip itineraries, shopping recommendations (where, and where not to buy), and our favourite places to eat. Glad you found it useful.

Better than the first time and the first time was super fantastic. it is like coming home to family.
We stayed here in 2009 and hardly a day went by that we didn't think about our stay and Verity and Simon and the kids and of course Charlie and Lola and Meow. When we arrived back in the yard six years later it was like we were coming home for a visit. Everything one could imagine about a stay in Tuscany area is here and much more. Simon andnVerity and family make you feel like you are home. The rooms are lovely and the food is spectacular . The Tuscan sunsets are better than advertised. The Rosemary hedges are unbelievable the honesty bar makes it so much like home. And there there are Charliie and Lola. Once you meet them you will never forget. And of course you will never forget Veriity and Dimon and children . Take in a dinner while you are there. What a feast and enjoyable evening. If you are trying to decide where to stay in Tuscany you don't need to look anymore. You will love the villa and more importantly you will love the family.

Wonderful Tuscan holiday came true
We spent 5 nights at Podere Patrignone after travelling for 3 weeks. It was the perfect place to stop, rest and base ourselves for our Tuscan adventure. Our teenage children enjoyed the walks around the property and neighbouring sights plus the location ensured we never had to spend too long in the car to see everything. We ate locally taking advice from Simon and enjoyed every dinner. We also shopped locally and had dinner at 'home'. Using Podere Patrignone as a base we visited Florence, San Gimignano, Panzano (amazing butcher/restaurant), Radda and San Donato. Having a hire car made touring very straightforward. It was also lovely to stop and rest, have lunches outside and walk with the dogs. We also sampled the olive oil, home baked bread and organic wine. Whilst the property accommodates more than one family / small group at a time, we never felt we were being intrusive nor did anyone disrupt our time. Booking was straight forward and Simon kept in contact with us regularly prior to our arrival. Given we were coming from Australia this was very reassuring. We recommend Podere Patrignone highly.

Delightful Stay in the Tuscan Countryside
We had a wonderful week staying at Podere Patrigone. We arrived to a beautiful self contained apartment, spotlessly clean and with a surprise supply of fresh baked bread, local olive oil, condiments, a local bottle of Chianti etc which was most welcome. The grounds are glorious - a swimming pool, a terrace with spectacular views (perfect for a wine at the end of day) and beautiful gardens. The location is great - lots of beautiful towns within an hour's drive, but in the middle of spectacular Tuscan countryside. Simon and Verity are great hosts - they are relaxed, friendly and very helpful. They have prepared an incredibly informative manual of local knowledge which we used to great effect. They also have a library of books including travel guides which guests are free to use. They often host a dinner once a week too, which was delicious and a nice way to meet the other guests. We particularly loved the two boys of the family, and the two dogs....

Honeymoon or anniversary location must have.
My husband and I truly enjoyed all aspects of the country side villa. The villa was a perfect size for the two of us and it included all the necessities one would need on a week long stay. The owners were great and extremely helpful with recommendations for things to do and places to eat. I would go back time and time again if my wallet and vacation time allowed.

We loved it
We were a little apprehensive about a farm stay but we loved it. Simon and Verity are truly the loveliest hosts. Prior to our visit all the "rules" sounded a bit like school camp but once there we were pleased there were clear ground rules for guests and that everyone was on the "same page". If you want 5 star hotel style accommodation this is not for you. If you want something full of character, and different to regular run if the mill hotels then you will love this place. I guess our only criticism would be that the gorgeous little kitchen had authentic Tuscan style bench tops and the crockery stored underneath often contained bench "debris". But hey..... If your gonna let that spoil your holiday, stay home!!

Thanks for the lovely review, and we've amended our cleaning protocols to make sure we remove any "debris" in future, plus we're going to treat those lovely wood bench tops for wood-worm this winter as the little critters are usually responsible for additional dust. As you say, all this is par for the course when you live deep in the countryside! Thanks again and see you soon. S.

Our Favorite Tuscan Stay!
This is a belated THANK YOU to Simon and Verity for the stay at Villa Patrignone. We only wished we could stay longer. It was my first trip to Tuscany, and your place couldn't have been more perfect. We arrived in mid October, just at the tail end of the season. We lucked out with sunshine - I can only imagine jumping in the pool in the summer months. We loved sitting out on the patio overlooking the view, drinking a glass of vino watching the sun go down. We'll definitely be back on our next trip.

Ultimate Italian Getaway
We felt like we had the place to ourselves, until we needed something or had a question-it was the perfect blend of solitude and camaraderie. Lola and Charlie make the place something special, and Simon, Verity and the family make it spectacular.

The perfect taste of Tuscany
If your'e looking for rustic, quiet, and off the beaten track, then this is for you... Podere Patrignone itself is lovely, set amongst the hills just north of Castellina in Chianti. The views are fantastic, in particular the sunsets across the terrace in the evenings, which are breathtaking. The guys are great hosts... and they're there if you want them, and if you don't then thats fine too. If you want to socialise with others, you can, if you don't want to, then you don't have to. But do take up the offer of the set meal once a week, its fantastic, and we were always able to find plenty of space to do what we wanted to do. La Tinaia itself comprises a living/dining area, a bedroom and bathroom to the side. It was cosy and had everything we needed... I would say, however, that if you are expecting everything to be 5* then this isn't for you, but if you want a really authentic Tuscan experience, then this is perfect... we loved it so much we got engaged here.

About the neighbourhood
Additional Location Information Podere Patrignone is ideally placed in the very heart of Chianti Classico, almost half-way between Florence and Siena. But despite being only 30-40 minutes from either cultural heavy-weight, we are deep in the Tuscan hills, far away from any noise or light pollution. The key attractions of San Gimignano, Radda, Volterra, Monetriggioni, and Colle Val D'Elsa are all within easy reach, along with dozens of top-quality vineyards and hundreds of fabulous restaurants. We are just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its full compliment of restaurants, cafes and shops (and a small supermarket). There is no doubt that you'll need a car to get the most of Chianti's nooks and crannies, but if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 11/2 hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines, clearly visible from Patrignone's Terracotta Terrace. And if you're into cycling, tennis, golf, ballooning or fishing, these activities and more can easily be organised. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.
Getting around
You'll definitely need to rent a car for your stay in Tuscany, otherwise, you'll be limited to visiting only the busiest most touristy places. And public transport isn't great.

Notes from owner
Tourist Tax? Don’t worry. We’ll pay it for you! This could save you €42! Stay 6 nights and the 7th is free! You could spend 3 weeks in Tuscany and barely scratch the surface. Longer stays reduce our cleaning and laundry so helping us minimise the impact on our environment (as we use less water, electricity, and cleaning products). To encourage you to have a more relaxed approach to Tuscany and to help us stay ‘green’, we will give you one free night for every 6 you spend with us. More accurately, you’ll receive a 14% discount off the day-rate for any stay in the same room or apartment of 7 nights. It’s our way of saying thanks for sticking around to enjoy the view. It’s enough for some great meals out, or pizza every night at my favourite spot! Tourist tax? Don’t worry - we’ll pay it for you. That’s another pizza night, on us.
