Immersed in the Country. Elegant, spacious, comfortable apartment with own private garden. The rooms are all large, the ceilings are high, beamed and terracotta tiled; floors terracotta tiled; from every window there is a view of the Chianti countryside with its cypresses, olives, vines, oaks and fields.
There are two double bedrooms with a double bed and a single bed. There is a large, comfortable sitting room with armchairs and two Edwardian wrought iron sofas, which make up into equally comfortable beds. The diningroom has a large open fireplace and television. The kitchen is large and is equipped with all that is necessary for full self catering and entertaining.
Our house is furnished in a style that compliments the architecture, though not slavishly so.

The Chianti is rightly famous for its natural beauty, as well as its wine. The local governments jealously protect the area against any type of development or modernisation that infringes on its historic and natural beauty. Our roads are the typical Chianti “white roads”, which means they are not asphalted. Vehicles need to travel slowly as our woods are full of woodland species, amongst others the deer and wild boar are common.
A car is fundamental as we are about 3 kms from the nearest bus stop, and 4 kms from Castellina in Chianti, with its bars, restaurants, shops and all around us are the wine estates. We are 22kms from the exquisite medieval walled town of Siena and 37kms from Florence (an easy drive).
Should you be looking for somewhere where you can relax after a day of excursions, sightseeing, visiting museums, strolling around hill towns, exploring Florence’s shops and art, trekking along the marked footpaths or cycling the lanes, then we are perfect. A perfect place to come home to after the hustle and bustle. A good glass of wine in the garden and dinner under the stars (which you can see in profusion!). Here there are only the calls of the birds, the barking of the deer, and grunting of the wild boar to disturb the quiet.
Castellina in Chianti, a quick drive away or a relaxed walk away, is one of Chianti’s most beautiful towns. There are various good value restaurants, wine bars, pizzarias and some excellent shops – clothes, shoes, accessories, galleries and wine - and, of course, the supermarket unless you would prefer the more specialist grocery shops in the town.

Tuscany is famous all over the world for its natural beauty and it's history. Our house combines both. It is in the highly protected area of Chianti, where wine has been made to the same recipe, virtually, since the Middle Ages. Vineyards are interspersed with woods (mostly oak and chestnut), olive groves, old meadows gone to bush with juniper trees, rosemary, thyme, sage, hazelnut trees, walnut trees, almond trees and wild roses and other flowers. Medieval towns perch on almost every hill, stone monuments to another era.
We are about 3 kms from Castellina in Chianti, a 7 minute drive by car or a 20 minute walk. Castellina could almost be called the frontier town of the 1200s, that divided Florence and Siena, two great adversaries until the 1500s when Florence finally managed to annex the democratic City State of Siena. While spending time relaxing in our peaceful surroundings and comfortable apartment, it is very easy and pleasurable to do some interesting sightseeing or just go nosing about - setting off each mid morning on shortish or longish excursions. Florence is about 37 kms (an hour's drive). Siena is 22 kms (a 25 minute drive). However, the historic medieval cities of Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino (to the south of Siena) are an easy and beautiful drive. Then there are Casole, Colle di Val d'Elsa, San Gimingnano and Volterra all a pleasurable drive too. Arezzo is not far either. And nor is the Tuscan coast, with its white sandy beaches, yacht marinas and historic medieval towns. Obviously, there are also all the Chianti medieval towns and castles: Castellina in Chianti (one of the most important and beautiful; Radda in Chianti is also very attractive and only a 10 minute drive; then there is also Panzano in Chianti and Greve in Chianti amongst others. There are all the wine estates and their cellars to visit. And eating is always an enjoyable, if serious, pastime in Tuscany. It is difficult choosing a restaurant with so many excellent trattorias and osterias to choose from.
For the days when one does not want to move, there are walks to do right from our front door; eat your heart out lunches to have under the trees; siestas to enjoy in the peaceful, balmy summer afternoons; and wine to savor in the evening during (and after) the barbecue under the stars. I can guarantee that stars like ours you will never have seen before. There are no city lights here to lessen their glory: the Milky Way strides out above you and leaves you speechless in its magnificence. The day finishes with the deepest sleep in the quietest surroundings that you could have ever wished to ask for.
