    Freshford is a beautiful village at the southernmost tip of the Cotswold hills, about five miles south-east of Roman Bath and three miles west of Bradford-on-Avon. The excellent local pub and restaurant sits by a 16th century bridge, and Freshford also boasts a tiny railway station with hourly trains to Bath, which is a ten-minute journey, as well as numerous other destinations. Regular buses travel the 25-minute road trip to Bath city centre. There is a local village community shop and café.

    The village sits above the convergence of the Frome and Avon rivers and is largely characterized by gracious stone buildings surrounded by fields and woodland.     Easy jet flights to Bristol airport are economical and straight forward. From Bristol airport there are taxis or a bus will take you from the airport to Bristol train station. Europe Car provides hire cars.

    There are regular trains from London Paddington to Bath Spa. From Bath Spa, trains leave regularly to Freshford. A cheaper option from London is the coach (National Express) which runs from London Victoria to Bath Spa. Freshford station is about three minutes walk.

We spent nearly 1 month in the Old Stables & found the place very well equipped, comfortable & well priced. The location is excellent for getting to/from Bath by the train (end of road) & the village / neighbours are all very nice. Thank you for your insightful review. It's worth point out that the train station is reminiscent of village train stations from the Victorian age. There are just a few small local trains a day, many of them steam in the summer. more

We were very glad of our GPS to find the Old Stables (though Paul's instructions were good!) The property is quite some way outside of Bath - very much a country village feel.
