Arrived at Stresa train station for our 5 nights in Sirena B. The 9 euro taxi ride was a brief 3 minute trip. You could walk up the hill to the apartment, but we'd had a busy day and decided not to figure out the walking route.
Location: Apartment is on Via del Portico, which is a very narrow alley, close to Piazza San Carlo (tiny). Looks a bit iffy walking down the alley, but have no worries! The neighbourhood is quiet and non-touristy. A well-equipped Carrefour grocery store is less than a 2 minute walk, right in the piazza. Very convenient to easily pick up whatever you might need. It has everything - fresh food, wine, deli, bread, tinned food, household items.
We loved its location, but you should know that the apartment is not in the heart of Stresa with the gift stores, restaurants and huge fancy hotels. It is closer to the Carciano boat stop, not the Stresa boat stop. So, we'd walk down the hill, under the train track culvert, down the main road for a short... more
