    Additional Location Information
Idyllwild, Pine Cove, and Fern Valley are three adjacent communities, of which Idyllwild is the largest, located in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California, United States. "Mile-high Idyllwild" is a popular southern California mountain resort about one mile (1.6 km) in altitude. Idyllwild is flanked by two large rocks, Tahquitz Peak (with nearby Lily Rock) and Suicide Rock, which are famous in Southern California rock climbing circles. We had a last minute chance for a weekend getaway in Idyllwild, and we decided to go with a more cost-effective lodging this time.

The good: clean, nontraditional mountain decor, and amenities including a small kitchen, a fridge, and a microwave (altho it was in the bathroom), and a fully fenced yard for the dogs. The small dining room table came in handy, but we did not test out the stove or any of the appliances other than the fridge and microwave.

Although the owner was not present, he was very responsive via phone and text. This came in handy for some of the following...

The not so good: when we arrived, the unit was dark and ice cold. We spent about 15 minutes stumbling round in the dark. It turns out several lightbulbs had burned out, and the water had not been turned on. We knew in advance that we need to press the red button to get the water heater going, but in the dark that was difficult to find. The owner did get back to us in a very timely...

Management response:

Unfortunately, these situations did happen, although they are not respective of a typical stay. Tania was a very forgiving guest, noting the situation she was placed in. Usually the water... more
