    Just 10 minutes from Great Barrington, 20 minutes to Stockbridge, the house is located in a small village of 10-12 houses. There are numerous lakes, York Lake in Sandisfield State Forest and another in Beartown State Forest. Both are open to the public for swimming and small boating. Lake Buel, just 2 minutes from the house, has public boating access.From the house walk to a national fish hatchery, learn about salmon and trout restoration projects, and hike on the property trails. Hikes to numerous waterfalls,antiquing, visiting numerous art galleries , and great roads for cycling make this an ideal vacation spot. For locavores, there are farmers markets in surrounding towns most days of the week. This is not quite southern France in the variety of offerings, but all produce is fresh from local farms, and sometimes, local breweries and distilleries. What a terrific place to stay in the southern Berkshires, and at a very reasonable rate. The house, set in a small village of perhaps 8 houses, is a rambling old cottage, beautifully maintained and comfortably furnished with antiques - from the 40s?
