    Banklands is a typical Lakeland cottage built in the late 1800's accommodating 6 people, in the heart of Eskdale, set amidst 3 acres of private fields and woodlands. Banklands has a large peaceful garden visited by local wildlife and there are extensive views of the Eskdale valley from the cottage including the steam railway.

    The recent renovation has retained many period features including the original staircase, wonderful stained glass and original fire places. While also updating the property with modern features such as underfloor heating throughout the downstairs.     Railway: Ravenglass and then la'al ratty to the door.: 0.0 km
    From the South
    Leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 for Kendal/Lakes
    Follow signs to Barrow (A590)
    Turn right to Workington (A5092) 3 miles beyond Newby Bridge
    Follow this road for 10 miles (it bypasses Broughton-in-Furness)
    Turn right to Ulpha before the River Duddon (at the traffic lights 3/4 mile beyond Broughton)
    After 4 miles turn left in Ulpha village to the steep hill signed Eskdale.
    Follow the fell road to the King George IV pub (6 miles)
    After passing the King George IV go over the hump bridge and up the small hill
    You will see a small woodland just on the left
    The gate and driveway to Banklands is just by this wood
    Please park your car in the gravelled parking area just before the second wooden gate

    There is parking for 2/3 cars. A trolley is provided to wheel your luggage down...

What a find, a true hidden gem with spectacular views all around. The house is a credit to the owners, a real home from home feel, with many little special touches, that made our stay extra special. The house has recently been fully refurbished to a very high standard, with many period features to complement the property. What an amazing view direct from the bath tub and the kitchen layout has absolutely every thing you could ask for. The gardens offer uninterrupted spectacular views of the surrounding hills and countryside, all of which constantly change through out the day. At the bottom of the garden is a little train station and hourly the local miniature steam train could be heard and seen. The local area has many beautiful walks through some stunning countryside, with many friendly pubs offering fantastic food and many real ales. The river Esk offers excellent fishing and on the banks is Eskdale Golf Club which is definitely worth a visit. What more can we add..we thoroughly... more
