We were met by the very hospitable owner, who showed us the cottage and had even provided everything for a tea or breakfast. The cottage did smell a little, but after opening the windows the smell lessened. I think it is brought about by too much furniture, books and other stuff. Actually inside there is nothing wrong with the cottage, only at least half the furniture is superfluous just like most of the books, the bowls etc. Were they removed, the cottage would be really spacious and comfortable. The windows could use some painting, but since the cottage isn't mine, I don't care.
It was wonderful to sit outside in the beautiful garden and we slept very well due to the peace and silence. East Meon is very charming and we did eat well at the George Inn. And nearby are many interesting places and villages to visit, so we had a wonderful week. more
