    Holiday Rental House –
    1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2
Coombeside Cottage is in the idyllic countryside village of East Meon in Hampshire. Within the South Downs National Park, the village is like a little step back in time, with some wonderful old character buildings around the village centre. It is an ideal location for anyone looking for a peaceful countryside break in a quintessential South Downs village.

The cottage itself is set just on the edge of the village, but is just a short walk (less than half a mile) from the village centre and even close to some stunning countryside. It has its own private entrance and small entrance hall, which leads to the sitting room. Here you will find a dining area and a cosy seating area complete with TV. There is a sofa bed, so this can act as a second sleeping area, if required.

We were met by the very hospitable owner, who showed us the cottage and had even provided everything for a tea or breakfast. The cottage did smell a little, but after opening the windows the smell lessened. I think it is brought about by too much furniture, books and other stuff. Actually inside there is nothing wrong with the cottage, only at least half the furniture is superfluous just like most of the books, the bowls etc. Were they removed, the cottage would be really spacious and comfortable. The windows could use some painting, but since the cottage isn't mine, I don't care.
It was wonderful to sit outside in the beautiful garden and we slept very well due to the peace and silence. East Meon is very charming and we did eat well at the George Inn. And nearby are many interesting places and villages to visit, so we had a wonderful week.

This property is an end part of the owner’s house and shares an entry door with the owner. There is no lock on the actual entry door to the property and paint is pealing off the windows that one passes to enter the property.

The property is an old style accommodation with old furniture, which in some instances, is falling to pieces. The property also has a very stale old smell which was so bad that we had to buy a plug in air freshener to make staying in the property possible. This unpleasant smell is worse in the bedroom and all the bedding has the same unpleasant odour.

The property does not have a washing machine, stove, vacuum cleaner, brush and pan set, hair dryer nor iron and ironing board. These items have been standard in all the other properties we have stayed in.

The property has ample very old style cutlery, a small under bench refrigerator, a small microwave and a small bench mounted oven with two hot plates on top of the oven. The problem is...

Management response:

Thank you for your review. We are a little surprised to hear some of your comments as we have had many other guests stay at Coombeside Cottage without having an experience as you describe. We will discuss your comments with the owner, of course, but we are not aware of any problems with a bad smell at the cottage before.... more
