    Holiday Rental House –
    3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6
The Level Crossing Keepers Cottage is set in a rural position, in a quiet valley, beside a river and a stream. It was built in the 1880's to provide a home for the level crossing keeper. With the closure of the railway in the 1960's it took on a peaceful & quiet existence. It is built of stone with thick walls, possibly by a water-miller given it's tolerance for the river close to which it stands. It is covered in clematis in the spring and roses in the summer. From all the windows are lovely views of the river, the fields, the woods or the garden. It is set in a deep valley through which a river and stream runs. The river runs one side of the house and the stream the other. It is surrounded by meadows and old woodland.

Would definitely recommend and would love to return here. The period cottage is in a peaceful location with a river at the bottom of the garden.
A great location for walks. The owners have left a great welcome pack with suggested walks - I can recommend the walk into Kington and up past the golf course. Stunning views! It was great to walk straight from the house without the need to get in the car.
Kids really enjoyed it and was good for them to get away from TV and the internet!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We booked this very last minute but were able to stay for the last two nights of the summer holidays with our three children (16, 14 and 10). The cottage is in a really wonderful spot, it is a classic old cottage with lots of interesting features. It was very clean and tidy on arrival. The garden is lovely, with river rushing past, you can sit and have your breakfast in peace and tranquility.
We had a Chinese takeaway from Kington which was very tasty and went out for a meal at the New Inn in Pembridge which was also very good and reasonable.
The only negative would be that we did not know we had to do the cleaning ourselves when we left until the details were sent to us once we had already booked. Obviously we would not have left the property in a mess, but I think that if you are renting a holiday property that the owners should organise for the property to be cleaned properly between rentals. Also I think that the mattresses could do with an update.
