We visited Sornac for a week in June last year. There are plenty of walks through the nearby forests (of varying lengths) and the house provided a perfect base for us to explore the area.
Great value for money, we had a large room with en-suite and the breakfast was great! We often expect to just get a croissant and a cup of coffee but there was a decent amount of food so we didn't have to stock up on snacks for the room.
The village itself is small but perfectly stocked with a Spar, butcher, baker and pharmacy and the little church still rings it's bell throughout the day in typical French style. We had a wander down to the Lake on the other side of the village which was very pretty and offers a man-made beach with swimming as well as a kids play area.
For exploring the whole of the region we would recommend hiring a car - we rented ours from the airport and it was very good value.
