    Holiday Rental House –
    2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6
Although it is right in the center of Hilo, 'The Lotus' vacation cottage is set in an old, established garden walled on all sides. 'The Lotus' is hidden from the outside world in a garden filled with tropical flowers and plants. There is the sense of being in a secret garden and yet only a few paces from excellent restaurants, live music venues, stores and the Farmer's Market - all in Downtown Hilo.

This rental is 'perfect' for those looking for somewhere with just the basics plus a whole lot of tropical romance and beauty. This cottage makes a sweet retreat for a couple and also can be rented as a three bedroom for a larger sized group. The Lotus is a refurbished traditional Hawaii-style 'Cane house’ built in the days of Hawaii's Sugar Cane Plantati...

    Additional Location Information
Hilo has many layers of history with a few grand buildings built in the heyday of the Sugar Plantations. It also has a quaint charm not found in the high dollar resort areas of Hawaii. 'The town that Time forgot' could be a great tag for Hilo since it has a weather worn, old look to it. There are small antique shops to browse and a Farmer's Market that is particularly interesting to see on market days (Wednesdays and Saturdays). Hilo's Sugar Cane days made it a melting pot of many cultures who made the labor force in the plantations. You will find influences of Japanese, Thai, Philipino, Mexican and Chinese flavors in the cuisine here as well as the local favorites ('Spam' and other dishes) loved by Hawaiians and those 'born and raised' here. Hilo now has a traditional 'tea house' with a modern flair in the next block, a Kava bar in a sunken garden and plenty of small affordable restaurants with a specialty cuisine close by. There are many little... more

This is a fun place if you come with an open mind. The family stayed here three nights while exploring this side of the island. The place is very convenient, with a few restaurants within a block radius, a grocery store across the street, a farmers market a block away and all of downtown within walking distance. We weren't sure... more

Peaceful, airy, colorful rooms in a lush garden setting. Hard to imagine a better place to stay in Hilo. The shower was outdoors and felt rustic, but was very comfortable given the climate. Megan was extremely friendly and helped me find a ride from the airport with another guest. more

It was a pleasure to feel safe and secure in this secluded garden of rest in the very convenient corner of downtown Hilo. I loved the ability to walk to the beach and all the local happenings downtown as well as close access to the farmer's market and grocery store. I felt safe and enjoyed the very clean and colorful... more
