I came here not knowing much about Carentan, or indeed about Normandy. Why I never looked into visiting this chateau and this area before hand is a mystery. I would encourage anyone to come here be it for a weekend or a fortnight. There is so much to see and do.
This area is perhaps most famous for the DDay landings and the fact that some of Saving Private Ryan was filmed nearby. There are many local landmarks and museums and during the first two weeks of June the DDay landings are commemorated and vast numbers of re-enactors turn up with jeeps, motorcycles and even the odd tank.
If that's not your cup of tea you have the Bayeux tapestry and the town of Bayeux itself. Both are absolutely fascinating. There is no end of decent restaurants and prices are incredibly reasonable.
