Jack's Cottage is a beautifully restored18th century thatched fisherman's cottage, nestled in a peaceful garden on the banks of the River Blackwater in lovely unspoilt rural West Waterford on Ireland's south coast.
The long, narrow lane that leads to the cottage takes you away from the hustle and bustle of modern life to a different world. Here the loudest sounds around are made by pheasants in the surrounding fields or the cormorants on the river, the perfect soundtrack for you to unwind to in this historic, comfortable house and riverside garden.
We have recently built a hide to improve wildlife watching on the river and it is possible to see otters and salmon in the wild, as well as a huge variety of birds.
The recently redecorated cottage, which retains its traditiona...

The Long Narrow Lane to Jack's Cottage could be the reason why it is such an unspoilt and special place.
However we find that depending on your driving experience the lane can be quite challenging, especially the first time you use it.
It was originally created before the motor car, to take a cow to pasture, and as the people who lived in the cottage used boats to get around, it was only upgraded relatively recently to take a car.

It can be a little rough and muddy depending on the weather. We do not own the lane but we do our best to keep it as well as possible given the other users.
The second half of the lane is used almost exclusi...

We stayed here with our 3 small boys and grandparents and had such a lovely time. While the weather was a bit hit and miss the cottage made staying inside enjoyable (great fire!). The gardens to the property are so peaceful and there is a walkway down to the river. Great for bird spotting. The owners were so helpful -...

We stayed in Jacks Cottage in June with friends. It was a truly magical place to stay. The river side location was beautiful. Away from all the worries of a hectic life. Bridie, Ben and their great dogs were the perfect hosts. Kind and very friendly. To sum Jacks Cottage up, extremely clean, peaceful, beautifully comfortable, so we will be... more

After traveling 13 hours from the North of Scotland we arrived to a roaring log fire in Jack's cottage, what a welcome. It really is blissful.
