    Set on a working beef and sheep farm, just off the Penrith to Keswick Road (A66) the cottage is an ideal base for touring the rest of the Lake District. There is the peaceful atmosphere of St Johns-in-the-Vale nearby with the challenging walking country of High Rigg. Rising up behind the cottage is Blencathra which can be climbed from the doorstep.

    Children enjoy playing in the play area (shared with the other cottages on Doddick Farm) which has a Puffing Billy train as main attraction! The traditional village of Threlkeld is 1 mile and has two excellent pubs serving food. The bustling market town of Keswick is 6 miles and has a selection of shops, tourist attractions, pubs and restaurants. Lakeside walks at Thirlmere and boating trips on Derwent water are a must.     Arndale is a beautiful barn conversion situated in an ideal elevated position with lovely views across to the mountains and fell walking right on the doorstep.

    The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge freezer, electric oven washer and microwave.

    From the kitchen is the sitting room which has large windows commanding fantastic views to Clough Head and the Helvellyn Ridge behind. There is TV with combined DVD player, and dining for four.

    Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a bathroom which has a bath with shower over it.

    From Junction 40 on the M6 take the A66 West signposted Keswick. After about 10 miles you will see the turn off for Scales (and the White Horse pub) on the right. Keep going and approximately 1 mile after that on the right handside you will see a yellow sign for Doddick Farm on the right. Turn up the driveway and at the top you will see Arndale on the left hand side.

I must admit when I first entered the cottage I felt a little disappointed as it didn't feel like a quaint and cosy little country cottage as I had hoped. It is very modern and felt more like a house than a cottage. However, this is not a negative review. Now that I have a 10 month old baby I have to accept that what I need from a holiday cottage is completely different now. It has to be practical, it has to be child friendly, it has to be warm, and for that I cannot fault this cottage. It was unbelievably clean, nothing was worn or slightly broken as is the case in a lot of holiday cottages. Its also in an ideal location and if you do have children they are going to love the swing park that's just outside. It is amazing value for money too, £260 for a week in the Lake District is hard to beat. more
