My husband and I are interested in going to a vacation spot that can combine the beach with what a city has to offer. Is Santo Domingo near any beaches? Is renting a car an option to drive around? Any and all suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance ... more

... city itself but driving to many beaches is possible. There are plenty of car rental agencies and getting around (outside of the city) is definitly manageable. The closest beach is probobly Boca Chica, about 1/2 from the city. But there are many more beaches within a few hours drive ... more
