Tenby has a long and enviable reputation as a great place for a family holiday, and renting a cottage or house for one or two weeks is a cost-effective way of finding accommodation, either as a single family or for an extended family to get together and share the cost.

There are house and cottage rentals available right through the holiday season, with prices being higher during the school holidays. Some rentals are in the town of Tenby itself, while others are cottages either inland or with spectacular coastal views.

Another option is to rent a fixed caravan or chalet on one of several sites in the Tenby area. These are generally cheaper than cottages or houses, but with fewer facilities on offer.

Tenby is justly famed for its safe sandy beaches which regularly receive blue flag awards for cleanliness. Lifeguards patrol the main beaches during the summer months.

Tenby’s North Beach is close to the town centre and is extremely popular in summer. It is safe and flat, and children will love exploring the rock pools near the cliffs and Goscar Rock, which is a prominent feature of the beach.

South Beach is less commercialised than North Beach, running away from the town for over a mile and backed by sand dunes. There are fine views towards Caldy Island.

Castle Beach is in a small cove overlooked by the town and the ruins of Tenby Castle. It is possible to walk across to St Catherine’s Island at low tide.

Harbour Beach adjoins North Beach but is more sheltered. Boat trips to Caldy Island leave from here at high tide (and from Castle Beach at low tide).

Tenby’s narrow streets are lined with terraced houses, a number of which are available as holiday lets, which makes a beach holiday with a young family very convenient and attractive.

Tenby can offer a huge range of sports for young and old, both for the adventurous and the less energetic. Visitors are welcome to play at Tenby Golf Club, on a renowned links course alongside South Beach. Water sports include surfing on South Beach and jet skiing and kayaking from North Beach. Coasteering is very popular, involving cliff scrambling and jumping under expert supervision.

Tenby is sited on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which offers magnificent cliff walks in both directions from the town into an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is the UK’s only coastal National Park.

Tenby has much to offer the budget-conscious family in this very special part of Wales. Taking a cottage or house for a week or more is an excellent way to have a memorable holiday.
