Six of us had a 3-nights stay, bed and breakfast with a one day wine tour. Absolutely fabulous! My wife best description of this place is 'enchanting'. Peaceful and relaxing location. Cozy and very comfortable bedrooms. Delicious and plentiful breakfast.Micaela and Sue looked after us beautifully, assisted us with local information for places to visit and recommendations for restaurants. Their passion and knowledge of wines is first class and we drunk a few bottles of magnificent wines. This was a first class experience. Highly recommended. Worth every euro!

Our tenth visit and each one as magical as the last. We went with friends for 3 days including a wine tasting on day one. Our first evening was with a superb meal. This was accompanied by several delicious and expensive wines from a local producer. Day two, after a tasty breakfast was a tour round three vineyards to taste lots of different wines interspersed with a picnic in a vineyard. That evening you are taken to a restaurant and day was spent was crowned by a picnic in the vineyards. Sue is a brilliant cook while Micaela does the serving. Both are friendly helpful hosts with their dog adding the canine touch. We continue to return as this is a special place where we are always made to feel at home.

I visited with my family for a long weekend as a birthday celebration for my wife and I. Originally booked for summer 2020, but COVID meant we had to delay until 2022. Sue and Micaela were very flexible about this as we had to rearrange twice. This helpful approach continued once we finally arrived. To say that they went above and beyond would be an understatement. From the meals they provided to the guided tours they simply couldn’t do enough. Even driving us all in a minibus to restaurants in the evening. The property is delightful and very peaceful. We are now all talking about living in France. For those did you with dogs this is very dog friendly.

We stayed here once again. It is magical place for many reasons and each time gets better. This time we were joined by 4 friends who have stayed before and enjoy the unique experience it offers. Sue & Micaela are superb hosts, nothing is too much trouble, they have immense knowledge of the area and are always smiling and happy. We did a one day wine tour which included 3 different vineyards and 30+ tastings. In the middle we sat by a river and had a superb picnic lunch. The food is always delicious and different, whether it’s the freshly pressed fruit juice, fresh croissants etc for breakfasts, then wine supper with a col fresh nettle soup, chicken, mushroom for the vegetarians and tart to follow, all accompanied by lots of wines. Our last evening we sat and had a picnic evening meal in the vineyard. All are veritable feasts. The accommodation is individual and comfy. All agreed our stay was restful and enjoyable. All will return for another dose of LGM magic.

La Grande Maison is an old Manor House with outbuildings converted to individual rooms situated deep in the Loire Valley surrounded by vineyards. The location and setting is completely rural with no TV or radio available in individual rooms to disturb the absolute tranquility. Our spacious room was one of the individual outbuildings with a very comfortable bed and en suite shower room. The furnishings are rustic, even quirky, but completely functional, comfortable and clean. There is a covered porch outside the front door with a coffee table and chairs. Outside there is a further table and chairs together with two wooden ‘feet up’ chairs all allocated to our room. The owners, Micaela and Sue, provide hospitality second to none. They seemed to anticipate our every need and produced delicious breakfasts and a superb dinner with excellent Loire Valley wines. Their knowledge of the latter is considerable and they will lead you on very interesting, informative wine tours if requested in advance. Our ‘package’ even included being chauffeured out to a well chosen restaurant for dinner and again at our request on the second evening. Nothing was too much trouble for Sue and Micaela and, for a quiet ‘chill out’ stay in the rural wine loving Loire Valley, we cannot recommend La Grande Maison highly enough.

We cannot come up with enough superlatives. We stayed in the old bakery which is by far the cutest room we ever stayed in. Comfortable bed, very functional bathroom and a little outdoor space to relax. Everything was spotless. We found the location amazing. You are in the middle of the vineyards and Saumur is a 20-30 minute drive. But as city people we found it so nice to be away out in nature. The hosts are wonderful. They gave tips about the area and we felt very welcome. We had all our breakfasts there, upon our request: vegan. Super delicious! We also had a three course dinner there (also vegan) and we absolutely loved it. The breakfast and dining area is in a kind of tower which was once used as a kind of pigeon house (OK pigeon palace !). Not only is it a cool building, we also really enjoyed watching the sun set over the vineyards while we had dinner. We would book here again in a heartbeat!

We were traveling on a road trip through the Loire Valley and spent one night here doing a condensed version of the wine stay. It was an amazing experience. The property is tucked away in the vineyards with private wine caves, yet it’s very updated giving you the best of both worlds. We loved the attention to detail in the decorations and furnishings of the rooms. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. We enjoyed our wine dinner which was prepared with some ingredients from their own garden and wine from their cellar. Sue took us on a full day wine tour where we got to taste a variety of wines from 4 producers and see many steps of the process firsthand without any other tourists in a very persona way. We loved our wine tour package and would highly recommend it.

We've just returned from a wonderful 5 night stay at La Grande Maison. We cannot recommend this absolute gem enough. The location is absolute perfection - set in the rolling, peaceful Loire vineyards, yet just a stones-throw from everything that you need, you'll be spoiled for choice for things to do and places to visit. Or you can sit back and enjoy the tranquility at La Grande Maison itself. Our garden room was a delight - cool, thoughtfully furnished, spotlessly clean and with the most comfortable bed I've slept in for a long time. The rooms and spaces are spread around the property, so you never feel as if you're living on top of the other guests. Breakfasts were fabulous, always heaving with fresh breads and pastries, as well glorious homemade jams and preserves, yoghurt and boiled eggs. We were treated to a wonderful supper of local meats and cheeses (and of course wine) on our first night overlooking the vines. We opted for the 2 day wine tour in the middle of our trip. This meant we had gastronomic feast with paired wines on one night, and then the privilege of a tour of 3 local vineyards with one of the owners Sue the following day, all topped off by the most spectacular picnic. That brings us to what makes La Grande Maison so special - owners Sue and Micaela. Their boundless energy and hospitality was evident at every stage of our trip, whether recommending local cycling routes or restaurants, offering to taxi us from a local restaurant one evening, or imparting their seemingly limitless knowledge of wine. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt so overwhelmingly privileged to have been able to stay in their home. La Grande Maison is a destination in itself - we can't wait to go return.

We stayed for 2 nights in tranquil surroundings and made use of the on site bikes. Excellent recommendations for local restaurants and where to taste and buy wine. The highlight was the dinner we ate there. The food cooked by Sue delicious and the extensive knowledge of the local and the Wines provided by Michaela Highly recommended to stay and dine

We have just returned from one of the nicest breaks we have ever taken in the Loire valley. We stayed in the Grande Maison - not for the first time but rather as return guests. On previous visits we had taken the boat from Rosslare to France and visited as part of a road trip but we had such lovely memories of our stays in LGM we decided to try a flying visit. We flew to Nantes and drove straight to Le Puy de Notre Dame - an easy journey which takes you through the sloping vinyards of the area. The house itself is very pretty, not too big or ostentatious but rather understated and quirky with a sure style of its own....and its warm and welcoming owners. Our room was large and airy with a very comfortable bed and some perfect crispy bedlinen. The room looked out onto the delightful garden which is there for guests to lol about in. Breakfasts were of a very high quality and what better way to start a day of sighteeing than fresh orange juice and delicious coffee and croissants? We will definitely return....this place should not be missed!
