About Me

Since Jul 2005

Lives in Santa Cruz, CA

65+ year old male

My wife and I are retired science professionals. We prefer family run hotels and restaurants, and use B&B's when we can identify good ones. We love good food, avoid chains, and try to enjoy the best of what each destination or stop along the way has to offer. Before I retired a few years ago, I got to Europe once a year on business. We also like to drive around the US. I love good food, many cuisines, like to to be treated well, am happy to pay for quality. but pretentiousness turns me off. We don't need luxury, but do want peace and quiet, and don't want a noisy room (or restaurant). we expect free internet access in our hotel and free parking. We have several rules of thumb for finding good food. 1) The larger the sign, the worse the food. 2) If we can't smell it, we probably don't want to eat there. 3) If it's ethnic, we want to see folks of that ethnicity eating there and running it. 4) It should be busy at meal times. 5) Local license plates parked out front are a good sign.
