I love to 'travel' as opposed to 'holiday', albeit long city-break weekends can satisfy the curiosity gene as well as the need to relax. I am prepared to 'pay' for quality, service and an overall great 'experience'. I don't however like to waste money on hotel rooms where I may only be spending < an hour of 'conscious' time ; value-focused and arguably basic rooms can sometimes be very 'fit for purpose'. That said, places like the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, the Ahwahnee hotel and the like represent top end 'value' and make for a wonderful experience. When rating restaurants, context is important i.e. I will inflate the rating of an establishment if the food and service etc is at least 'good'...but the location is 'in the middle of nowhere', where there is little choice, high distribution costs, minimal labour supply etc. Package holidays are not for me and group tours = Ugh !
