SAA has upgraded their planes since our last trip to South Africa using Airbus 330's and 340's now, depending upon the departure city. The 330 was newer with an excellent Business Class layout, lie-flat compartments, great LED screens, good entertainment options, very good sheets, pillows and blankets. Food service was also greatly upgraded with an array of choices for meals,...

Star Alliance Gold member Lounge is large but completely overfull. Staff attitude was dismissive and basically - we are full so please leave! Worst lounge in the Star Alliance Group.

This inbound and on time flight aboard a new A330 was excellent in most respects with very comfortable new business class seats / beds and attentive and friendly crew. It contrasted completely with the earlier outbound leg aboard an elderly aircraft with very outdated seating. If indeed the former represents the future SAA provides an excellent alternative particularly when they...

Admittedly only a short flight to link up with the return Virgin flight at Johannesburg en route to London but the seating was spacious and comfortable; the staff were helpful and enjoyed themselves!

The cabin crew on our flight were both professional, courteous. The food was acceptable. The in flight entertainment is limited but as it was a night flight it wasn't a huge issue.

The hardest aircraft seat I have ever had to endure. Both my wife and I had aches in the buttocks and upper thighs for several days after our flight from Perth to Johannesburg. Never happened before on the many long-haul flights that we have undertaken. For the return trip we bought memory foam neck cushions and sat on them, they...

Phew what a ride, bumpy and noisy. I could not hear my music even though it was on maximum. Seats narrow and no arm rest, not assuring for anyone who flies for the first time (not my first flight though) Pilot and staff on top of their game which is how I know SAA and its affiliates.
